I was offered an unpaid research internship this summer at a local college. The topic is in my top field of study and I would love to be able to do it. Money is kind of tight though. However, I have a full ride to college so I'm not that worried about money. I am a senior in high school so I don't expect a much better internship. Is it worth it?

Yes, if you need extra money see if you can make it doing something else when not at the internship. Even babysitting in the evening would give you pocket money or something easy to do on the weekend.

If they expect you to be commited and dedicated to 40 hours a week and aren’t even willing to offer a travel stipend/driving costs, then I would say it is not worth it.

If they are willing to be flexible, like 3 days a week or every day but not all day, and then you can possibly get a job too, that sounds very reasonable and like good experience.

I agree, you do want to know the number of hours.

If it is a local college and transportation costs aren’t much, I would say take the opportunity. It sounds like a great experience to me and a possible recommendation letter in the future.

If you need to gain money during the summer than I would suggest looking for a traditional job.
