Should I go to Cornell now, or stick it out one more year for UNC?

Hello all! I am currently a freshman at a university within the UNC system. Right now, I have the opportunity to transfer to Cornell in the fall to the School of Hotel Administration. I also recently learned that I’d have a good shot at transferring to Kenan-Flagler (the business school at UNC) in the fall of 2021. So I guess the question is, is it better for me to go ahead to Cornell now (it would cost me $20k per year), or wait one more year at my current university (which is free for me), then go to Carolina. Cornell or Carolina? Thanks for any guidance y’all are able to give. -AM

Where will the $20k come from? Start with that.

What have you been hearing about Kenan-Flagler’s support for students this spring when instruction went remote? Better than your current U? Worse? The same? Likewise, can you find out how the Hotel School handled things? What are they saying now about their plans for the fall?

How hard is it for you to travel to and from Ithaca?

How do you feel about paying Cornell prices for classes in Zoom?

Thank you @happymomof1 for your reply! My dad works for a major airline, and I have the ability to fly standby for free, so I’m not too worried about transportation. I’d love to work in the airline/tourism industry out of college, and I think UNC and Cornell will do a better job of connecting with folks in that industry. I don’t like that I’d be far away from home, and honestly, that’s the one factor keeping me from Cornell. Thanks again for your response!

Cornell has excellent graduate programs for hospitality. So even if you decide that it isn’t the right place for you now, it could be a good place for you in the future.

How certain is it that you’ll get into Kenan Flagler?
(Do you have a plan B if you don’t?
Would you reapply to Cornell next spring just in case?)
