Hi everyone,
I have been admitted to CU boulder (computer science) and I am super happy. I am an international student and this school really attract me, location, people, programs, etc… This is where I want to really go, but… unfortunately I’m not sure to go because of its reputation. Honestly I do not care about reputation (its a huge school) and rankings but employers, my family and my friends do. You are “nothing” if you are not from an Ivy League or another top schools. I have been admitted in England in good universities but I don’t really wanna go. Is boulder a good school ? or courses suck and students are not willing to learning ? Will I be able to find a job or to go into a good graduate school if I work hard ?
Thanksss
It is a good college and you can do well there if you take advantage of what they have to offer. Public universities exist to educate college ready students of the state they are in. So a small higher reputation private college might have 6,000 students from all over the country,. all of who are top of the class. Where a 25,000 student public college like CU Boulder might have 6,000 top students from that state and the rest are just ‘college ready’ of varying abilities and studiousness. So at a large research college like that you will get a variety of students but the higher you go in harder majors the more you will be working with students like yourself.
Of course it will be a beautiful and fun place to go to college. But if it is not recognized in your country does this affect your job prospects? I guess not since you don’t care about reputation, then? Or is this just for bragging for your parents? Of course you can get to a good grad school from there, they have resources of a national research university. What field are you interested in? For most grad school it is more about your own performance than what college you go to. But some college have better access for undergraduates than other. You need to manage it better and seek it out if you are at a large public sometimes. 20 percent of graduates go directly to grad school. That’s likely about as many as want to.
It has one of the top 10 US Engineering programs and other programs are very good too. It was on my son’s list as well. I love their international dining facility and the campus is beautiful. Boulder is a progressive city and you are close to Denver, a major airport and you are in the gateway to the mountains.
