Should I go to NCSSM?

Hi everybody,

I just got accepted into NCSSM. For those of you who dont know it's the North Carolina School of Science and Math, a residential high school for talented students. At first I was denied, but then I appealed and they admitted me. I'm not sure whether I should go, and here's why: If I go there, I can probably have a decent chance of getting into UNC Chapel Hill, but not as much of a chance of getting into an Ivy. If I stay at my school, I think I might have less chances of getting into Carolina, but if I get valedictorian and/or Class President, I might have a slightly better chance of an Ivy than at NCSSM. To complicate things, NCSSM offers its grads free tuition at any UNC system school, meaning Carolina would be very cheap if I went there but UPenn would cost 100-200K. Right now my life's goal is to start a small business and turn it into an empire, so a cheap school would be helpful. But I might change that sometime in the future and decide to be in IB or management, where a degree from an Ivy would help tremendously. All of these possibilities are going through my head, and I only have until May 14 to accept or deny. If you have read through all of this, thank you very much. I would greatly appreciate any advice on this topic.

Mmm, I'm going to NCSSM Class of '09. But seriously, if you're aiming for UNC-CH, its not hard at all instate. I doubt that you'll be rejected from Carolina anyway.

You can look at the colleges that past grads have gone to. Many Ivies are on that list. If you do well at NCSSM, your chances will probably be better than if you did well at your current school.

Theres a NCSSM thread on the prep school section. You might wanna check it out.

Well, I couldn't find it again online, but I had some statistics on my computer from their website about Acceptances and Enrollments for the classes of 2000 through 2005:

Carolina: 587 A, 384 E
UPenn: 19 A, 10 E
NC State: 517 A, 215 E
Harvard: 10 A, 8 E
Duke: 183 A, 54 E
MIT: 31 A, 19 E

Just to name a few. And it didn't say how many applied. Anyway, thanks for the advice, Didnotfaillife.
