Should I go to Rice CS or Carnegie Mellon ECE?

Hi guys I’m deciding between rice and Carnegie Mellon. One for cs and one for ece. I prefer CS though and it doesn’t seem like I’ll be able to switch into cs for Carnegie Mellon. I’m not the nerdiest kid I like being well rounded. I’m from Texas. I wouldn’t want to live in Pittsburgh I’d want to either move back to Texas or go to silicon valley. I also want to go to grad school. Thank you guys

Rice is a solid CS school, and you’d actually get to study what you prefer there, so that’s a big pro. I think you’d also a have a bit less of a techy vibe at Rice so a better social balance. Still, neither one would be overwhelming.

Most CMU grads move out to cities and Silicon Valley, so I wouldn’t worry about that.

I don’t think there’s a bad choice here, but I’d personally go Rice

CMU has a special place in the tech industry. I don’t think recruiters check if it’s CS or ECE, and job fair should be open to everyone. If you can deal with living in Pittsburgh, which I hear is one of the most livable city but I haven’t been there, then I would recommend CMU.

I would say Rice. You get to actually study what you want and it’s also strong in CS.

@PengsPhils You don’t think that going to rice I’d lose opportunities to work at a Google or Facebook?

@micacharleston Absolutely not - Rice again has a very strong reputation in CS. If you search Linkedin, there are currently 135 people with the title “Software Engineer” at Google from Rice.
