should i go to SUNY ALBANY? --

Right now im up in the air about moving out of this state, or to stay in NY and receive my B.A.

Im lost being i choose to major in Public Policy...though i want to leave NY asap and i dont want to loose my connections through the internships and such. Basically my question is if i choose to major in public policy, would it be recommended to stay in NY or would the degree be just as effective as if i were to live in California...

I received my acceptance letter the other day, and called admissions today. My experience with suny albany is terrible so far lol. the admission guys was okay, The lady i spoke to who ran the summer program was rude, had no solid answers and basically hung up on my to transfer me. Mr.Sanchez, the counselor i spoke to was a total d-bag. I cant believe the ba11s this guy had, im going to make sure i dont come in contact with this dude for advising...i read that the staff is lazy in previous posts, so i wonder if this is truly the case?

I was considering in switching my major to sociology, though i got a big laugh from Mr. Sanchez so idk now...before i was considering recreation though thats not much better...

hrrrm any suggestions and comments would help :)

Some of the issues you mention are a reality in dealing with any large administration in a state university. Faculy/staff and program cuts as well as reduced funding from the state are also a reality at most state universites…especially in NY. So it may mean that you have to do more leg work to get the information you need. However, you should sit in on classes, speak to students in the major, speak to a professor or dean in that department/college. Don’t trust everything you read…try to do your own research…first hand. Still, if you can’t be happy there then don’t go. Leave the state if you feels that’s in your best interest.

I think a degree in public policy or sociology, as well as any intern experience, will be just fine in Californiaa or any other state.

-Good luck!

I appreciate the advice, i visited today and the staff and the students there were real nice and helpful, defiantly considering going to albany. i visited the capitol building and spoke to a guy who was interning there, and he said he was enjoying it and told gave me a reality of how it goes n so on.
so now i shall think hard about my major…lol
