Hi!
I am having trouble deciding between these two schools and are looking for some more opinions. I personally believe that Seton Hall appears to be the better option but for someone reason, my heart can’t quite get rid of Uconn. I have visited both schools and realize that they are on different sides of the spectrum. I would be entering as a business major. However, I am also interested in nursing so there is a possibility I might switch. I stick with a business major I would either double major or minor in biology so I can go to nursing school after if i wanted to. Here is my breakdown
1. Uconn Storrs the good:
would be cheaper(in-state tuition)
-1.5 hours from Boston
-one of the best business schools in New England
-love the school spirit
-greek life
-nationally recognized/competitive???
the bad:
-a lot more people = bigger class sizes. I wouldn’t allow myself to just become a “number” but the size is very intimidating. what if no matter how hard I worked I was still just a number? which leads me to…
fewer opportunities for leadership, co-ops, and internships. This is in part to it being so far from a major city but I thought I could maybe stay at the Stamford Campus if I found something in NYC
harder to double major/ major across schools?
-small fish in a big sea??? I would aim to be a big fish but what if that is not possible with the amount of people
2. Seton Hall the good:
-30 minutes to Midtown
-regionally recognized??
-scholarship money would make it about 38.000 a year
received summer scholarship of 4,500 that I can use to take classes over the summer
-school spirit
-greek life
I was admitted to their Stillman Business School Leadership Honors Program. This would give me a leg up in terms of internships and classes in comparison to the other students. This program is #1 in the country.
easier to double(and even triple!) major across schools. They really encourage it
-smaller class sizes = the professors get to know you better
-again, even without the Honors program, internships would be easier to get
the bad:
-I was waitlisted at their academic Honors program(not the business one). I will not discover if I was admitted until April third
-not a huge fan of the campus but I could get over it
-slightly more expensive.
-big fish in a small pond for sure
-maybe it doesn't have a good reputation regionally. I personally never even heard of it prior to Junior year and i live in CT and follow basketball
i think that is everything. Are there any other factors I should consider? I like both schools pretty equally(obvious lean towards Uconn but it is hard to justify it)

that’s what scares me. I am almost sure that no matter where I go I will start my career in NYC( including metro area) or Boston. but at 18 I really have no idea where my life or chosen career will take me. What if I want to end up down south or on the west coast? If i went to seton hall I would have a lot of good things from the honors Programs but would it be enough if it’s not a well-known school?
If you like both schools and could see yourself at either one you should go to one that is considered the better school in this case you have the best of both worlds. Cheaper and better. Getting in the business school at UConn is not easy and one of the best. You should not give that up. If you want to work in New York and have internship opportunities don’t worry they know UConn. Go Huskies!!
Students switch majors all the time. Two students that live across the hall from my son have switched their majors but it was after they had met most of the pre-requisite requirement classes for the major they were interested in switching into. I do know that it is not easy to transfer into business if you weren’t accepted from the beginning. For example if you are a communications major looking to transfer in the business school you must meet the requirements to even be considered. From what I understand much harder for the school of engineering and nursing.
A biology major won’t really help with nursing (the curricula are very different) andbts very difficult to double major with business.
Did you get into UConn Honors?
How is the sciences track at UConn/Honors? My S was admitted into Honors and wants to pursue something along the lines of biological/chemical sciences. He is choosing among UConn, NYU, and BU, so any help is appreciated.
I did not get into Uconn honors. I also discovered that I cannot double major in business but I can double minor! which is better than nothing. Also to the previous poster, If your son has not decided yet, I know nothing about the sciences at NYU or BU but when I visited Storrs they seemed to be very very strong in the sciences. that doesn’t offer much help lol

the decision was very very difficult. UConn is the COMPLETE opposite of where I thought I would end up when I began my college process. I thought I was going to a small LAC near a city. it was a scary choice but I decided to go for it because honestly I would rather “try” UConn and learn I don’t like the size or location or whatever and be able to transfer to a smaller school closer to a city. Like what I had gone to that smaller school and not liked it and then wondered if it was the smaller size/location of a LAC and what would have happened if I had chosen UConn? plus there are tons of majors so if I end up not wanting to stick with a business major I have lots of other options and Uconn is respected in many areas. And if I decide after one semester I can’t stand the size and location and want to transfer to a different school for my sophomore year then I can move to Stamford which is closer to the vibe I originally wanted(and closer to home!) until I decide on where I want to go next
