I'm a rising junior, ranked #1 out of 700, female, asian
2060 SAT (1390 CR & Math) (going to retake so it should be about 2150), 780 USH SAT II
Current GPA of 4.98, 3.98ish UW, probably about 5.4 when I graduate
13 or 14 APs by end of senior yr, so far I've taken AP USH and Psych and got 5s, 3 or 4 dual enrollment classes, all A's

A lot of academic awards, strong but not completely outstanding ECs (mostly school and church leadership), 500 volunteer hrs projected

I want to go into medicine. I'll get 100% bright futures at UF. I received a few other scholarships that I could use at any college.
Should I aim to attend UF or try to get into a more selective/ivy league school?

If your family can afford private colleges or you will qualify for lots of aid, why not apply to a few? For med school school is not that important, but you may prefer the college experience better elsewhere.

If your planning on going to med school, and money is tight, going to UF (I’m assuming it’s in state for you) would allow you to save that money.

Still apply to other selective schools though, and see what happens.

What if you end up not liking UF when you visit? S had full ride there, but really didn’t warm to it when he visited. Ended up going private at UMiami with a great scholarship…By all means apply to more than UF

If you just start chasing “selectivity and prestige” you could be doing yourself a disservice. UF has lots of undergrad opportunities at Shands that could give you a leg up on your med school apps.

BTW…lots of ivy-league grads would love to be accepted to UF medical school.

I’m surprised you don’t have higher scores for having such a high class rank… That’s exactly what I made only I was in about the top 25% or so when I graduated lol… then again, you’re only a junior so your SAT will probably get higher.

That being said - I wouldn’t discount UF as being not selective - like someone pointed out, UF rejects lots of good applicants (I was one of the applicants they rejected - whether or not I was “good” is another story…). I think you will be very surprised about how many of your friends don’t make it into UF - I think at least one of the people who were in the top 10 at my school didn’t make it in. Also, the competition in Florida keeps getting more intense each year, but with the redesign of bright futures to cover less, that will probably make the competition a little less fierce.

Even still, unless you can get a great need-based scholarship at another top university, UF will be very cheap for its quality. I don’t believe the Ivies give out merit-based aid?
