I will be attending W&M in the fall and am trying to decide whether or not I should join a sorority. I definitely like to party and be a part of the social scene, but I'm worried that a sorority will be to costly and cause me to lose focus from school. Also, would it be hard to manage time? Please let me know

you can attend rush events and decide if it is for you.

also, you can join as a sophomore.

here you can see the average GPA for each sorority: http://www.wm.edu/offices/greeks/documents/scholarship/GPASpring2011.pdf

I think the above report will show that GPA is not sacrificed by sorority members. That said, obviously it can cause individuals to lose focus, but as a whole it doesn’t happen.

As for the prices… I can’t help you any with that.

Hi Dgxoxo,

Soccerguy is right. Sororities at W&M can be a huge time commitment, but on the whole they don’t detract from academic performance. However, they can be very expensive. I decided not to accept my bid this past fall because it cost over $500, and it was literally a choice between joining a sorority and paying for next semester’s textbooks. But it is up to you-- I will let you know that rush is a very time and energy consuming process, but the girls I know who got a bid from their preferred sorority are very happy with their decision.
