I'm very unfit, but very academic...i have no free period, and spend most of my time doing homework and stuff.
but this year, I've decided to join the cross country team, however, I live 2 hours away from school, so I'll get home at 7:00pm.
will that damage my grades?or is it possible to maintain the same grades?

it's very possible to maintain your grades, but it will require a lot of time management and a lot of hard work, depending on how much commitment xc at your school requires. i know a lot of kids in your situation, and they have been able to pull this off.

do it. but only if you like xc. don't just do it to get in shape, because xc is a sport that you can only be happy with if you enjoy running. i did it freshman year, and it was missssseeeeeeerable. i was in super good shape and everything, but i just find running more than 2 miles the most boring thing in the world (everybody has different opinions running, so i'm not attacking the sport of xc, i'm just sayin my opinion). i didn't really like most people on my very small team either. but i'm totally into other sports where i can never predict the next move i'm gonna make because i am interacting with other players and base my moves off their moves. i just get bored by plain and simple running, because i focus on the pain too much. some people love it though, and wouldn't trade it for any other sport. it's simply a matter of preference. as far as time management goes, it's not really hard once you get used to it. your concentration goes up a lot from so much exercise, and you're in a happier mood because of more endorphins and stuff.

use your long ride home to your advantage and get most of your hw done then. assuming you dont get carsick too easily.

but yea, if ya like the sport, then do it. i, along with millions of other people, manage to do a sport and get straight A's, so it's doable.

i agree, do it for yourself.
i did it last year and i quit. not b/c i don't like running (i run/jog almost every single day, if i have time that is), but b/c it's too boring. plus i'd rather run at my own pace and be comfortable. i mean i went to one of the meetings and omfg it was horrible. my coach told me beforehand that all i had to do was to go at my own pace. but NOOOOOOOOOO. it was not like that at all. the gun sounded and all of a sudden everyone started running for their lives like godzilla was chasing them or something. and i just gave up. lol pathetic i know.

but there, that's my story. i still run b/c i like to keep myself in good shape and health, except i don't think i'll have that much time this yr (junior!!!).

thanks for your advice...well 'yournamehere' was totally right, so I actually went the first week, then quit...i just didn't see the point in it...i'm trying out for tennis next season ...much more interesting

Tennis Is The Best Sport In The World!!! (and this is coming from somone who also runs track).

Try going to the gym with a friend! You're still being social, and you're working out. Plus, you can do what you want on your own time. Win/win situation!
