Hello!
I’m new to the US and I don’t have any ECs. I’m in my junior year. I wanted to know if joining the red cross is a good idea. Thanks

Of course. If you are actually interested in that, by all means, do it. And try to involve yourself in soemthing else that interests you. Colleges here like to see genuine interest in something. Good luck!
Join if you are interested! It’s a great club actually (I’m heavily involved in it) and there is a large variety of activities that you do. In the high school clubs and youth councils, you will do lots of fundraising, education, food drives, blood drives…lots of outreach. At least that’s what most clubs in my area do. Outside of the clubs, there are more outreach activities such as Fire Safety and Disaster…also volunteering at Veteran’s Homes, Food Banks…
It’s a great way to get leadership! Don’t expect too many health related activities; you can get health (ie CPR) training from them, but don’t expect to do CPR on people by being a part of the organization! I thought it was a medical group, but it is actually more of a humanitarian service group. The Red Cross responds to many natural and man-made disasters (home fires, hurricanes) and provides financial and emotional support through case work and CAT cards. They hold shelters during disasters, educate people of all ages through CPR, Babysitting, Disaster Institute classes, and alleviate suffering without discrimination (that’s the mission or something like it haha).
It’s a great club to meet new friends and volunteer!
