So my first year my major was computer engineering at UMD and I was put on academic probation. I failed my calculus and computer programming classes but did well in non-major classes. so I transferred back to my community college to find a new direction. I have straight A’s following a path of criminal justice and accounting. My question is, how does a Law School look at your GPA when they are from different schools? Since I won’t ever take computer programming classes again I can’t salvage that grade. Is there any chance at law school with a first year GPA less then 2.0?
Yes, you can go to law school. Law schools look at all of your grades, so unfortunately UMD grades will count, so this may make it difficult to go to a top-tier school, but you can still go to a law school if you want–there are lots of them that need students.
Yes, they will look at your grades but mostly, you need to have a good LSAT score and the money to pay for law school.
LSAC keeps counting grades until you get your first BA/BS. If law school is really what you want (and you know this because of personal experience with law), you can delay graduating until you get your GPA where you want it. CCs are good for doing this cheaply.
