Should I keep Trig?

Hi everybody!

I signed up for Advanced Trig this year along with Honors Precalc because I heard from many people in the grade above me that the Precalc teacher is extremely difficult and they greatly benefited from taking Trig with it. My issue is: my school only offers 10 APs and the majority are only available to seniors, therefore I am only taking AP Lang this year. Should I try to drop trig and take the only other AP I can, which is Psych? Or should I keep it since I really like my schedule as it is and it could be beneficial? My school does not have a block schedule by the way and this year (junior year) is the first year I am able to take APs.

Also, if I keep trig, is it okay that I only have one AP junior year? I plan to take many more senior year when they are available and all my other classes are honors/advanced.

Thanks!

Why don’t you just take the class for a month and see how it goes?

Yeah, that would be a good idea so I can judge if it’s useful or not. However, I think my school has really weird policies about changing courses and I think our only chance to switch is next week before school starts. Should I just leave my schedule the way it is?

“Only” and “10 APs” should never be mentioned in the same sentence.

Well I guess it doesn’t seem like a lot when most of them aren’t available until senior year. Things that seem to be common on here like APUSH and AP Environmental and AP World are not available at my school. Many of them don’t even start because only 2 or 3 kids sign up.

My school only has 22 AP classes…

Wait why are you taking trig and precalc in the same year?

If you dropped trig you would be skipping a whole year of math.

Not really.

It’s probably a better idea to drop pre calc, because if you’re doing this to take AP senior year… don’t because you can go from trig to calc.

Do NOT take or drop a class simply because of the AP designation. Colleges know that some regular classes are more difficult than AP. For instance, trig involves more conceptual work than AP Psych (which is mainly memorization of material). Take a class only based upon whether you think it would be challenging to you.

^^^ Lol okay you go from geometry to pre calc and tell me how that works out for you.

It worked out great. Great enough for me to go from PreCalc to Calc BC.

Pre calc to BC is a normal jump though…

You had to have at least self-studied some algebra 2/trig stuff.

Do you mean in sequential order?
I leaned Trig in Geometry and Algebra II in Algebra II. Nothing “out of place”. Taking a year of trig isn’t necessary.

So then you didn’t go from geometry to precalc you had algebra 2…

Nevermind, my school does things differently. It goes Algebra → Geometry → Algebra 2/Trig → Pre calc → Calc

When the OP said “trig”, I assumed he meant Algebra 2/Trig. I didn’t know schools devoted a whole year to trig.

People just don’t get New York lingo. Of course trig always means algebra 2 slash trig. Like what’s with these people.

@CSIHSIS Nice try at being humorous, but your comment is unnecessary.

By Trig, I mean it’s just one class called Trig. I took Algebra II last year. Once again, I chose to take trig with precalc because many others did the same last year because they said it was essential to learning precalc.
