Should I live on campus first year?

What are the benefits of living on campus first year? I know all the things of getting to know people better but is it really required. I checked the prices and its like 8-9k a year and I don't think financial aid would be able to cover that. My grandma lives in austin and I though it would save me money staying there better. What you guys think?

better college experience = living on campus

My advice: If you can possibly swing it, live on campus just one year, freshman year, and move in with Grandma for the next year. Living on campus as a freshman really helps you become part of campus. After freshman year, you have a lot of friends and know a lot of campus activities you like, and living on campus isn’t so important.

I think it’s a great idea for freshmen to live on campus, at least for their first year just so you can get the whole college experience. It’s really fun, not to mention convenient so you don’t have to deal with traffic every morning.

By living in the dorms, you definitely meet a lot of people, and it’s really convenient to getting to class. If cost is really a problem, you might consider living in West Campus right now for similar convenience. There’s lots of really cheap special running right now for the “luxury apartments” that are usually big enough for two people so if you can find a roommate it could be as cheap as $300-400 a month to live there.

But if you choose not to live in the dorms, you’re really going to have to go out there to clubs, talking to people in class to meet new people you know? Unless you’re going to mooch off your friends’ friends who live on campus that way.
