My PSAT score was in the 99th percentile. However, it is not going to be enough in my state for me to make semifinalist (yes, I am certain). On my common app, I will list “National Merit Commended” under awards/honors. However, I feel like that’s not a significant distinction because commended could mean a score as low as 202. Thus, I am considering putting “National Merit Commended (99th national percentile)” instead. Would you advise against this? ie: Does it make me seem bitter or try-hard or something?
You should put it as such. That merely describes the honor you received. Nice job and good luck!
I don’t think you should put the 99th percentile info - posters with much CC experience (as parents or HS students older than freshmen) should weigh in on this. My gut as a parent is just to keep it as NM Commendation and don’t call any more attention to it. @GMTplus7 @Jmbakh @ivyhopes12
Seems petty – “Don’t confuse me with these other inferior students.”
Agree with the above, just put commended.
Have you taken the SAT? If that score is also in the 99th percentile I wouldn’t bother listing this at all.
Guess I’m average then; I scored a 202
I would put only Commended on the application.
