Should i not submit poor Sat scores or just retake them?

Im a junior looking at Holy Cross, WPI, and BC. My GPA is 3.9, however I just recieved my Sat scores and they were 570 570 and 610. Should I retake the test or just not submit my scores, seeing as WPI and Holy Cross do not require them? Would it greatly harm my chances if I were to submit them or would it be a better idea to just retake the test in the fall?

If I were you I would take some SAT test prep classes and buy some study manuals and take them again. Many students are able to raise their scores significantly with the right training. This is actually one reason why more colleges each year are dropping the SAT because it gives an unfair advantage to students who can afford this edge.

Honestly, I think SAT is dumb. I mean, you have to be able to do math and be able to analyze passages and answer questions about them in 25 minutes each per seciton…

That is kinda dumb imo…I didn’t do too well on it either. (1930) but I took the ACT and I got a 32. You should look into the ACT

Take the ACT. I think you can go standby for the June test date. You’ll get your results 2 weeks later and can compare them to your SAT score. Then spend the summer self-studying for your best test. You should improve.

Definitely retake and try the ACT. If you can’t get scores that fall in the mid-range for the schools you’re interested in, then don’t submit them if you have that option.

GOOD LUCK!

I 2nd - Exactly what “toledo” said.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Im definitely going to get an Sat book to study inside out over the summer. I will also look into the ACT,but am curious as to how to prepare for it. Is it the same basic format as the Sat in terms of subject content and depth?

Retake the SAT and/or ACT. I’m in a similar position CR: 580/ Math: 530/ Writing: 560. Do not take a prep class(i did and look at my scores:( waste of money), instead look for Xiggi’s SAT prep advice in these forums. Buy the Official Guide to use practice tests and look for other guides to learn techniques and strategies.

ACT has a science section, but it’s not really science. It’s more like “reading charts and making conclusions”. Also, there is no penalty for guessing on any of the sections. Don’t waste your time studying, just take the ACT ASAP. Then you can study one or the other.
