Should I put this on my application?

Ok there are about 3 schools, any of which i would happily have applied ED to but given my bad start to high school, thankfully which is no longer, i have been advised its best to showcase as much of my 12th grade year as possible, i expect to have straight A's in all my IB classes my first quarter, the thing is on the app where it says you can list anything else you want tomention should i say something to the effect that the reason i didnt apply ED is because of this? I want to let themknow i am fully aware ofmy disastrous 9th grade year but have been on an upward swing since and want to show as much as possible of this year? Do you think its important to mention this? Thank you!!

No. They'll see it for themselves. No reason to highlight it. And it's not going to help you to say "I didn't apply ED because my grades weren't good enough."

Seconding Chedva. I think such a comment is more likely to hurt you than help you.

Why would you think you need to explain why you didn't apply ED?

The explanation would suggest to the admissions committee that the college really is the applicant's first choice, and shows honesty in owning up to the lower grades. Don't know if these benefits would outweigh the risks, though. Personally, I'd do it.

I would explain it only because I really wanted to do ED but can't considering my earlier 9th grade grades and because I really want to show more of my senior year, at best it may be look gullible but at least I am being honest, I just don't know if I should....help!

Why don't you give it a shot and apply ED? You can at most be deferred and send the grades for the regular decision. So, they will know this is your first option.

Not true, angelutza. You can be rejected ED and not deferred into the regular admission pool; it happens more and more frequently nowadays.

If you are not at the top of the application pool, at which point the school may think it's a "safety" and not take you, the school doesn't care if it's your first choice. Saying you can't apply ED because your grades make you unqualified will not, in any way, shape or form, help you.

Again, I second Chedva. Unless you apply ED, you are not going to be thought of as an ED applicant in the sense of proving first-choiceness. You can, if you wish, tell them they're your first choice, but frankly, they'll take it with a grain of salt, because anyone can say that. It will just draw attention to your grade issues. I just can't imagine this is anything but a bad idea.

It seems like something you might want to mention if you get interviewed by an admissions counselor at one of these colleges. Letting them know their your top choice is a plus if you are already competitive for them.
