So I work a part-time job while attending school. I started when I was 17 and with high school and my first year at college, I didn’t like working but I didn’t mind doing it. I was able to balance it out and the pay was pretty decent.
Im 19 and in my second year of college, about to wrap up this semester and it is starting to get hard to manage them both. With everything that comes with college, the school work, tests, anxiety and stress (lol), its really hard to now add ANOTHER burdening resposiblity on that. I am a Computer Science major taking 18 credit hours, 19 during the Spring semester, and I know I can’t handle a job anymore. Should I quit?
I live at home with my parents, and they don’t mind that I do since I am in college and stuff. But they are dead ass set on me having a job, and I have tried expressing them that it’s starting to get a little rough to handle both, but they don’t care. I never had a day off (where I wasn’t either at school, at work, or doing school work), where I actually had time to relax, since Columbus Day in October. I would love to say since Thanksgiving Break but I worked everyday during then. I got my work schedule during this week and I have to work three days, two of them on HUGE final days. So I won’t be able to study for my tests on those days. This is despite me requesting them off.
I haven’t been performing well at my job either. I haven’t done everything my boss wants me to do, I skip out on some stuff he asks me to do, and I even leave early so I have enough time to get my schoolwork done. I do only work 14-16 hours a week, but still my job is starting to be a burden. Should I quit my job? If so, how can I convince my parents that I need to focus more on my schoolwork?
