Should I repeat a year in high school to raise my GPA?

Please help me! This semester I was hospitalised and therefore had around 20 absences. I lost credits for almost all of the classes I was taking. You need to attend a certain number of hours to receive credit and sadly my school doesn’t offer summer school opportunities to recover these hours.
Aside from the absences I ended with really low grades for my second semester during ninth grade. My lowest grade being 32.
The school gave me the chance of repeating ninth grade or change school and then comeback. I decided boarding school would be a good idea because aside from my health, which is good now, I have been in a rut so I felt the need to change in my life. My parents found a good boarding school in France, which unlike my school they don’t need credits, so they gave me the opportunity to not repeat ninth grade and place me into 10th grade depending on how my test scores went, otherwise they’d place me in ninth grade. If I do 10th grade in France, I could come back to my school like nothing happened, but I am worried about how this is going to look in college applications.

Should I repeat ninth grade to raise my GPA? Should I repeat it in my school or at boarding school? If I don’t repeat how will it affect me?

I really didn’t miss a lot of the learning because I usually had As and was taking several honors classes, so depending on test score which will show my knowledge, the boarding school will decide where to place me.

I’m not proud and I know I could’ve made things better. I’ve been dealing with depression for the last couple of years and it’s been bad so I really wanted to go to boarding school for a change.

Additional info, don’t know if it’s going to help or affect me in any way but I am living in Mexico and I am attending an international american high school in which they give you the american high school diploma and the Mexican one too and all the classes are in english.

I am also not quite sure in which forum to post it so if you could give me advice on where to post it so that I could have more accurate answers I’d appreciate it.

Thank you for all your time

I would suggest posting it in Parents Forum, many of the posters there have good advice about starting over and how to eventually be successful with credits, gpa etc. It’s also very active.
