At my test location, we took the test at a 2-person desk. I caught the person next to me(never met her before) clearly staring at my paper and then proceeded to copy my answer (free-response math) and tried to draw fake scratch work below it- I think she saw me catch her. Is it worth it to report this? I feel like if she cheated on one question she likely copied more. The only thing holding me back is the chance of my score getting cancelled. What do you think?
You can’t prove it, and if the proctor didn’t catch her in the moment, then it’s unlikely anything would happen. If you think she copied a lot of your answers, however, you might want to report her before they start suspecting you of cheating off her!
I didn’t realize that it was still legal to take the SAT at 2-person desks. You might risk having your scores disqualified if that information comes out, and it turns out that it’s not allowed.
Call CB, but don’t give your name. You’re calling for a friend.
Tell them exactly what happened, and mention if the 2-person table will disqualify your friend.
As far as them thinking your friend cheated, if your test booklet has work in it (math work, reading underlines, cross outs, etc), that should support your friend that he didn’t cheat.
Then call again and get another representative. Hopefully they all give you the same feedback.
I agree to call anonymously and see what would happen in that situation first, but also just keep in mind that as much as cheating sucks, there are thousands of people that took the SAT that day that you are competing against in the college process. If by chance your scores got cancelled because you reported cheating, you would be hurting your own college efforts more than you would be helping them even if the person was caught and your scores were fine. Cheating sucks, but just weigh the harms and benefits to you specifically of reporting it.
@violetviolin1223 @mmk2015 @ivysource So I called to see if the 2 person desks are legal, and they said that it depends on the test center, so I’m assuming that means it’s fine. They also said that if she was caught cheating her score would get cancelled, and not mine. I don’t see why mine would get cancelled.
