Should I report this to colleges?

My AP Statistics class was cut at my school because not enough people wanted to take it. I am now taking AP Stat online, so it did not drastically alter my schedule.

However, I did not tell colleges that I would be taking it online (because I wasn't at the time). It should show up the same on my transcript, but in case it doesn't and shows up as "Independent Study" or something... should I warn colleges that I'm taking it online? Or will they even care?

Come on guys, simple question.. (bump)

Wouldn't that kind of thing show up on your midyear report? You could explain it then...why not ask your counselor how it would show up?

I did, and she said it would show up the same way, but she's been wrong about things before. I don't know; I'm just overthinking. And it wouldn't show up on the midyear report, because we are on a block schedule. AP Stat is second semester only.

Well...it doesn't seem like something that's going to affect decisions at all, either way. On one hand, better safe than sorry; on the other, this seems rather inconsequential.

...On the third hand (or possibly a foot, whatever), I'm already consolidating a reputation of decisions that others disagree with, so better get some second opinions on that.

Haha, thanks anyway. Second opinions anyone?

I think it shows determination and perseverence on your part to take it on-line, so I think it's a plus if you mention it.

You seem to be really nervous about this, so for that reason I'd say contact your colleges. Doing so won't cause any harm and you'll feel alot better.

Your guidance counselor should provide an explanation in mid-year report that the class ended up being cancelled; that's their responsibility....If you want to contact your admissions counselor from your schools just to make sure, you could do that in February ( and use it as a way to communicate with admissions.....)

If its second semester and you are a senior, your decisions will be out in April and they wont find out about it, if at all, until after you have graduated and taken the AP Stats examination, which I hear is hard, but not like AP Calculus exam hard. In that respect, since you didnt change courses, it sort of doesnt matter at all, particularly if it doesnt matter to your high school with regards to class rank and gpa. So I say its a non event and just clutter, and in worse case, just gives them another chance to say "no." You didnt deceive anyone, the school system changed.

On the other hand, if it was taken fall semester it will be on the mid year report and you should make sure how it will appear and request PROOF from your high school principal if necessary, if its been done before. If it appears on your transcript as an "out of district" course, I am not sure it matters. If it appears as "correspondence course" or something like that, you may wish to explain what happened. But either way, I still dont think it matters that much.

If you are a Junior, then have your GC explain it on the recommendation forms next fall when you are making applications.

In short, I dont think its a big deal. The only thing they are sticklers about is kids who sign up for AP courses and submit their planned courseload second semester, then drop them and take easy Honors classes to bump their gpa's and class rank. That happens surprisingly a lot, in senior slack cases. And its dishonest and they sometimes get ugly about it.

Most colleges require you notify them if you have changed your courseload substantially.

A final note is that I have never heard of an AP class being offered online. Are you sure its an AP rated class? Or is it a community college class?

Virtual High School offers AP classes online.

Yep, I'm using Georgia Virtual (subset of Virtual High School I suppose), and it is definitely AP. And yes, it is my second semester senior year, so it won't come up until the final transcript.. I just don't want to deal with any discrepancies between the final transcript and the original class list I sent to colleges.

Oh well, I'm just not going to worry about it; my GC assured me it will come up the same on my transcript, and that if it doesn't, she'll change it.

Thanks for your help though!
