Should I request letter of recommendations if none of the colleges I'm applying to require it?

I’m applying to 6 colleges, and they don’t require letters of recommendation. Is it necessary to request a letter of recommendation in such a case?

Ps. I also feel like sending a letter of rec wouldn’t help me because I thought I wanted to major in Digital art, so I asked a LOR to my Digital art teacher and a Physics Teacher. I’ve only known them my junior year, and don’t have much of a bond. But now I’ve decided to take Psychology as my major. (Ugh, whatislife)

I would still request 2 letters of recommendation to have on hand. You never know if you’ll need one for a scholarship or some other opportunity.

Do your colleges allow for/“recommend” a LOR or will they not accept one at all (like the UCs, for example)?

If it’s the latter there’s no point to asking for one if you can’t submit it. If it’s the former, I’m in the camp that it certainly doesn’t hurt to have a solid LOR to add to your application.

I’d ask for two so that you’ll have it if you need it for a scholarship. You can explain the situation to your teachers. They may appreciate hearing that you have a more flexible deadline than most.

Thank you so much for your answers. I love this community.

Commonapp allows you to list teachers even if recommendations aren’t required. Large universities, like UCs, don’t want you to send extra material.
