I’m currently a junior looking to apply to some top schools. In our school, you can’t take any AP’s freshman year, and only 1 AP social studies sophomore year. Well, I took the AP Euro exam last year and I really screwed up badly. I didn’t study, messed up badly on the multiple choice but wrote really well and ended up with a 3. I’ll be taking the AP Calc B/C and APush exams, but I was wondering whether or not I should retake Euro to get a 5? Otherwise, I doubt I’ll send in this 3 to any of the schools I’ll be applying to. Sidenote -I’m taking 4 AP’s + Multivariable Calc next year
Thanks
Oh and to be be more specific about “top schools,” my #1 school that I want to go to is Cornell and I would probably apply ED for hotel management. Not sure whether or not this info makes a difference.
AP scores aren’t really used in admissions. You just self-report them on common app (completely optional, but most people report scores of 3 and above). The only reason to retake it would be if you want to get college credit for the class.
Ahh okay thank you very much for the clarification
I took the AP Euro exam last year and also scored a 3. It was much harder than I thought it would be xD but to be fair, if you just need a high score social studies AP you could take AP World. Almost all of my preparation for the AP World exam was Crash Course, the textbook, and background knowledge from AP Euro and I scored a 5 on the World exam. It’s actually designed to be easier than Euro as well, with four options (A through D) instead of five on the multiple choice and only 60 questions instead of 100. I don’t know if it’s worth paying the $90 again (unless you get it paid for by the state if you’re low income) to retake the same exam, but if I were you I’d take a different exam. Just to learn something new ^^
^Be that as it may, World History also has the smallest percentage of 5’s (6.4% last year). If you want to retake Euro, by all means do so. But it won’t affect admissions in any way.
