Should I retake/take the SAT? High school senior who might be taking a gap year

Hello! I’m graduating high school in a couple weeks, have committed to UW Seattle, and have been accepted to a gap year program. Still, I am a little dissatisfied and would like to try a different route.

I have requested a deferral form from UW, and if I am granted a deferral AND get the financial aid I need for the program, I am going to take a gap year.

However, I was also considering applying to different schools during my gap year. I really learned everything I needed to know for college during my senior year because I was kind of on my own with that, so I regret the schools I applied to and not getting a score on the SAT that I am satisfied with.

When I applied for college, I was in the top 30%, but now as a senior I am in the top 10%. Would I be applying with these stats, or my junior stats? To be fair, my high school was really competitive.

I have not taken the SAT II, so I want to sign up for SAT II tutoring for a month and a half and then take my SAT II before I’m off for my gap year. To be honest, taking the SAT II would be more for personal satisfaction, but if I could get something out of it, I would be pleased.

You will apply with your final stats. So yes, you may have different options with a gap year.

Thank you! It’s tough trying to figure it all out…

If you’re dissatisfied with your SAT score you CAN take it again during a gap year. As to whether you should, who knows?

are you allowed to apply to another school while you are committed to another one and on a gap year?

Also UW Seattle is the flagship campus…you could do very well there! Plus I am sure it is affordable!

I don’t know if I am so maybe I should clarify that with UW aha :-/

Alright! Updating this thread! I am going on my gap year, and UW only grants deferrals for extenuating circumstances like illness in the family. That means I am going to have to reapply as a new applicant next year, and that worries me. I’ll have better grades but still, it’s worrisome.
