Hello I am new to this site but I have a question that I can’t seem to find the answer anywhere else. I am planning to retake the SAT in October to improve my SAT scores, but I have already received a full score on the essay on my last SAT. If I were to retake the SAT for a better score, do I have to take the essay portion again? If I don’t take the essay portion, will I still be able to send colleges my old essay score, or will my essay score get deleted?
You can’t opt to send only some of your scores from your first SAT. If you opt not to take the essay this next time around, and your schools of choice require an essay, you will need to send along your first exam as well. In that case, you’ll need to check with your school to make sure they are cool with the essay from one test and your best overall set of scores (or superscore if the school does that).
Neither your essay score nor any other part of your first will be deleted upon taking the new SAT. You will be able to access those scores for some time.
Good luck!
Hi Mamelot, would you recommend that we take the SAT without essay the second time around if we are already satisfied with our first SAT essay score? Thank you!
@willingpop As @Mamelot posted, you should really be checking with the colleges to see whether they are okay taking the essay from one SAT and the score from another SAT
