ParentofIvyHope: I had a student whose CR was well above that 730 mark. So was his math and he was turned down flat by the Ivys. He went to Stanford. While hitting a 730 is nice, I would think there are other factors that go into admission, such as rigor of schedule, recommendations, essays, ECs, even location of where a student lives.

The contrary is also true, I didn’t have a 730 CR and I did get into top Ivyies + S + M. Scores alone will never get you in, and scores won’t always necessarily keep you out either (especially high 600s).

Well, if there is a viable opportunity for improvement, it seems to be in one's best interest to take it (high 600's may very well turn into 700's), which generally improves one's chances...

Especially when I want to apply to colleges such as Stanford and Yale, where the median CR SAT score is well in the 700's.

Hey guys, sorry to somewhat jack the thread, but I just need some final confirmation.
I have received a 2280= 790 Math, 750 CR, 740 Writing.
I have concluded that I shouldn’t retake the SAT.Would you recommend this decision?

Unless you honestly believe that you can get a 2400 (or extremely close), your scores are phenomenal as they are. Don’t bother, in my opinion, and spend your time improving other parts of your application.

This thread was DEAD, I don’t think anyone minds you jacking it.

I would say retake it if you are confident you can get those scores or BETTER.

I had 710CR 800M 750W first time, 2260 total

I retook it and got 740CR 800M 800W, 2340 total

Will this make a difference in your college admissions? Probably not. Will it show colleges that you can improve even if you start out really well? Yes.

Hmm… I see. What happens in the offchance that I actually score LOWER than previously?

should a retake a 700M, 760 CR, 800 W
i’m aiming for the ivies & stanford… ?

thanks :)

I’m in a similar dilemma… I scored 2260 (780-M 710-CR 770-W)
I’m pretty satisfied with my writing and math scores, but I feel like my CR score is too close to 700 to be competitive. Should I redo it just to bring my CR score up? I’m also fairly certain that I could bring up my math and writing scores simultaneously as I didn’t practice as much as I should have this time.
