Should I room with random student or friend from HS?

Just wondering which one would be better, like
I know friend from college is easier, but a new student, you'll become friends and that'll be fun? Idk, what should I do?

i think rooming with a random student would be better. it seems like meeting new people would give the “true” college experience. plus, making new friends seems more fun :)

Yea that’s what I was thinking, I’ll probably do that. Thanks

Go random. Because if you don’t like them, you don’t have to, you weren’t friends before.

And it would be a bummer if living together harmed your friendship!

But what if I’m stuck with someone completely different from me, like we would hate eachother… Could I switch or something?

My vote is random. Meet a new person! It is tough to live with someone and you may ruin the current friendship by being room mates as S1 did. He wishes he had a random one assigned but live and learn.

Can we pick roomates? Like, I would like someone who likes sports and is outgoing and has same interest as me

Some schools have questionnaires about interests and habits and stuff, but from what I’ve heard people still get mismatched roommates. Some schools don’t have anything like that at all.

Remember that you don’t have to be friends with your roommate - it can actually complicate things a lot of times. It’s more important just to be compatible and to be able to coexist in the same space.

Also most schools offer room changes, yes.

It’s been a long time since I was in college, but I noticed that the friends who came in as roommates had a more difficult time maintaining their relationships over time than those of who roomed with someone we didn’t know before.

Okay so I think I’ll go at it randomly, hope I meet and get to know a lifetime friend. Thanks y’all!

I’m gonna go against the grain and say friend.

I roomed with my HS friend last year (freshman year), and it was great! We worked out well, had a go to social person, but because neither one of us is shy, were able to grow and get our own social groups (some people overlap, but we go to a small school, so that’s inevitable).

SingDanceRunLife.
I was thinking that, but idk, if my friends go to my school yea I’ll room with them, if not I’ll go at it randomly (only option haha)

That’s a good way to look at it.

My friend and I decided to room together only after we both decided to go here.

Where do you go?
