In order qualify for the Dean's List I need to have at least 12 graded credits cumulative of 3.50+ in a quarter. I am taking 13 credits. I have two 5 credit classes I need for my major and one 3 credit art elective. I am doing very well in my courses required for my major but not so well in my elective course. I am considering changing the elective course to satisfactory/not satisfactory grading option, but that will drop me to 10 graded credits and out of Dean's List consideration. I am not in my major's department yet and it is supposed to be very competitive to get in. I can always take another art credit class. What do you think?

Thanks.

The Dean’s List is a silly distinction that no one will ever care about - I promise. More important at this point is that you protect your GPA. If whatever grade you are expecting in your arts class would significantly damage your GPA, it makes sense to take it pass/fail.

^
I agree entirely.

Your GPA is incredibly important, but Dean’s List doesn’t matter.

By the way, does anyone else attend a university that allows them to change their grading method this late in the semester?

^I don’t think any semester schools let you change this late. My school finalized grading options just a couple weeks ago though, so I can see quarter schools still letting you change.

Yeah, the Dean’s List barely matters at all compared to your GPA. I guess it’s nice to be on it, resume-wise, but I don’t think you’ll encounter any problems for not being on it.

^ Many colleges (like mine) don’t even have a Dean’s List and it certainly doesn’t prevent us from getting internships or jobs or grad school offers or national fellowships.

Forget the Dean’s list. You can always be on it next semester if it’s important to you.
