So there are 15 slots on the Common App for AP exams, and I’ve gotten 5s on Stats, Spanish, Calc, and Psych, 4s on Chem and English, and 3s on World, Euro, and US History. This year I’m taking Calc BC, Physics C E&M, Lit, Human, Gov, Macro, Micro, and Comp Sci. So, that’s a total of 17. Im for sure including my 5s and 4s, BC, physics, lit, comp sci, Macro, and Micro. Leaving me with human, gov, and my 3 3s to fit into 3 slots. Which 15 would you guys suggest sending. Idk if i should send my 3s, so I can just send my 14 other APs and leave one blank, or send all except human and gov.
All advice is accepted, thanks in advance.
I’d say just send one of the 3s, just because I think it’s better to report as many AP scores as possible (to show that you were motivated enough to take the tests).
And 17 AP exams is a LOT. Good job!
Thank you @sahar1811 my only thing about just sending one of the 3s is that that’ll seem like i don’t mind sending 3s, so it looks like i did worse on the other two exams. thats why i feel as if i either send all or no 3s.
someone told me he spoke with a yale admissions officer that said if you’ve taken an exam but don’t send a score they assume you got a 1. I think that’s a bit harsh, but that would lean me towards sending all of my 3s, but that way i wouldn’t be able to send human and gov, or maybe id select two other exams, i just thought those two were my least important
If you took the AP class but not reporting the score, the adcom may thing either you did not take the AP exam or you failed. Having a score of 3 although not likely to get you any credit, at least it should you are proficient enough for that class.
@baller55 Wait I just re-read your first post. So 17 AP exams is including the exams you WILL take in the future? Or are they exams that you’ve already taken?
And yeah, for more selective colleges, they will assume that you failed or didn’t take the exam. But if you don’t list a score because you don’t have space for it, that’s entirely different.
List the ones that don’t fit in the additional information section.
Alright people, I’ll rephrase. After my junior year, I’ve finished 9 ap exams. 4 5s, 2 4s, and 3 3s. This senior year ill be taking 8 exams. There are 15 slots for APs. I’m asking if you guys suggest I send my 3s or no. I don’t think they’ll look good, but will not putting them seem like I did worse?
report them all; you passed the exams
ah ok so just list all 9 of the scores you have. Not putting them will hurt you more than reporting them.
I reported my 3s… not feeling too great about it… but oh well. I assume college admissions officer will suspect we got a 1 or 2 then.
Now for the second question, assuming I report all 9 of my scores, which 6 of the 8 senior exams should I report? If you can explain why that’d also be great lol. If it matters I’m leaning towards studying Engineering/business but I still wanna show a well rounded student
It doesn’t matter; colleges can see what AP’s you will potentially take based upon your senior year schedule. If any of them are self study, leave them off or list them under add’l info; colleges won’t be impressed and you won’t have a score to show for it before admissions decisions are made. Otherwise, report them alphabetically until you run out of room, or in descending order by character count, or by year in which they were introduced, or however else you think is best.
@skieurope wait why would i leave them off if they’re self study? I’m taking two APs online, I feel like those should be included since I’m going out of my way to take those rigorous courses
Are the online courses going on your transcript? If not, then you really have nothing to show for your effort until the exam scores are released, which is long after decisions have been made. As I said earlier, colleges just aren’t impressed with self study. If you want to list them, and you’ve run out of your 15 spaces, feel free to include under add’l info.
