Should I sign up for private SAT prep tutoring?

Hi,

So I got my SAT score back and I scored a 2110. My weakest section was CR and my mom wanted to get me a private tutor from StudyPoint to just tutor me on the CR part of the SAT. For those of you who have heard of StudyPoint or used the service they offer, what do you think of the service? If not, how effective is private SAT prep? I heard that once you hit 2000 on the SAT, it's more effective to just self-study and do a lot of practice tests. That's pretty much what I've been doing to prepare for that last SAT.

Should I spend $1050 to get this private tutoring service or should I self study? I'm kind of doubting the effectiveness since I really can't see what a tutor can teach me in the CR section except the usual reading tricks and line rules for the passages.

Thank you so much for your help!

Your gut is definitely right in this instance. A tutor might be helpful to raise a score from 1500 to 1800, but high level point increases require individual concentration and practice.

What was your CR score? I don’t know Study Point, but at 2110 you shouldn’t need to pay for a full program - I think a private tutor can be extremely helpful at the high levels since they may catch trends, etc. that you tend to miss, but go with a tutor that will work with you on an hour-to-hour basis so that you can do your own work in between.
