<p>My son did one of his short essays about tutoring at a local (ghetto) elementary school. He found that the full time teaching staff were callous, uninterested in the students, and cruel. All true. Not at all what college admissions officers want to hear about. I tried to argue him out of writing about his experience this way, but lost.
I wish I didn’t have to recommend this, but admissions folks love to hear upbeat reports pure and simple, or about happily overcoming obstacles.</p>
