okay so I am a sophomore atm and I only took 1 AP test this year because I was unaware of "self-studying." I would like to get the AP Scholar award for 8 tests next year if possible. In order to do this I will have to self study 4 courses...3 at the least. I was considering:
AP Comp. Gov't
AP US Gov't
choosing between
AP Env. Science
AP Psych
AP Human Geo
Should I start at least 1 of them over the summer? I have a lot of prior knowledge in US Gov so I could wait till January I bet. Maybe I could get a head start on 2 tests? Any help is appreciated, =)

Starting in the summer sounds like a great idea, but remember that AP tests are in May, so there is a big time lapse. When school starts, are you sure you will have time on top of SATs, school work and extracurriculars? To be honest, The college board award is meaningless… colleges don’t care.

Yes. I started both of mine in the summer, and I feel like that was a very important thing to do. I lost time when school started, and really only had time to work on them on the weekends, if that.

I think that you could just pick one of them and learn everything over the summer, and do quick refreshers over breaks (Thanksgiving, Christmas, spring, etc.). Then, do some last minute studying right before the AP test, and you should be good.

That’s what I plan to do this summer for Music Theory, Chinese, and Environmental Science/Human Geography.

yea that’s a good idea. I am gonna start one of them this summer, and start US Gov halfway through the year because I already know most of it.

At least start on them, like reading the first chapter or something. It’s just to get a feel of the material and how much you need to study over the next year or so.

Good idea to start during summer. Lowers stress immensely.

Get as much of a head start as you can so you’re already familiar with the topics. That way, even if something comes up that makes you unable to follow your original plan for studying your self-studies, you’d still be able to do well by just reviewing every now and then.
