I am interested in applying Dartmouth early decision but my SAT II subject scores are low. I was wondering if I should still consider applying. Here are my scores: US History : 700 Chemistry:690. I know Dartmouth strongly recommends the SAT subject tests but I was wondering how harshly these scores might affect me in admission.
Thank you.
I think those scores might hurt you more than they would help, but I don’t think you should let them affect your decision to apply or not.
You need higher scores, like above 750. Dartmouth is one of many colleges that looks deep into standardized testing, unlike other ivy colleges. However, if you have other hooks then maybe you have a chance.
@piano320 as we discussed previously your scores are fine. They will not be the reason your application would be denied. Dartmouth does NOT look “deep into standardised testing”. Test scores are but one component of your application. They state “Testing is required, but it isn’t the ultimate factor in evaluating an application. We look at every applicant in the context of available opportunities and efforts. Testing, in conjunction with your secondary school report and recommendations, helps us better understand your academic preparation.” Also please keep in mind as you are seeking advice on this forum just exactly who is responding. While you will have parents, admission officers and others with real life experience offer their best advice you will too have 18 year olds that are simply spouting off what they think without any facts or first hand knowledge to back up their “advice”.
If D is your #! choice and you are sure the money will work out go ahead and apply.
