Should I still take IB Courses but drop IB Diploma?

Hello,

I go to an IB school, and I am moving to 12th grade. In 11th grade, I took:

Math HL
History HL
English HL
Physics HL
Economics SL
Spanish SL
TOK

and I plan on taking the same courses in 12th grade, except I am now taking Business SL. I am done with CAS. However, I am struggling with EE, and I am preparing for the final SAT and I feel like I cannot afford to spend time on writing a 4000 word essay. If I take these same rigorous courses but just give up IB Diploma, would it hurt my chances of going into top colleges??

Thank you so much for answering!

I would say so, just because it forces colleges to wonder why you would take so many classes and not do the Diploma. At the end of the day, no matter how much YOU don’t view it this way, colleges are likely to assume that you just didn’t want to do the EE or CAS, even though you completed your CAS hours.

Perhaps you could post in the IB section what problems specifically you’re having with your EE? I’d certainly be happy to try and lend some advice.

I am supposedly writing a econ EE, and I just have no idea on the format or where to start. With rough draft due by the end of September, I feel like I don’t have time to write an EE when I have to do really well on october SAT.

bumpbumpbumpbumpbump I NEED MORE ANSWERS!

if you drop it, i would assume your counselor would not tick the “most rigorous courseload,” which means that it would hurt you for admission to top colleges (at least in my school that’s what the counselor would do). Why should a college take you when another kid at your school with similar grades and ECs stayed and finished the Diploma?
