hello!
so this saturday, i’m taking the SAT subject tests.
my original plan, because i was going to apply to caltech (which at the time was my top choice) was to do physics, bio, and math 2. but for medical reasons, i wasnt able to take the december date, which is the last date caltech takes, so i wasnt able to apply there. i’m still registered for those three tests now, but should i swap some out to do a more well rounded bunch now?
so i applied for a physics major, by the way. here are some of my thoughts:
switch math 2 out for english or french, keeping the two sciences
switch physics out for english or french, keeping bio and math 2
do one science, english, and french
but then i have some questions:
should i definitely do the physics if i’m applying to physics programs, especially if my physics marks arent as high as they could be?
only french with reading is available now, and is it a waste to not do it with listening?
should i definitely be doing a math test?
or should i just keep the three original tests i was gonna do in the first place?
thank you! and i hope this makes sense, i wrote it fairly quickly.
I would keep the three original and definitely keep math 2 for a science major.
I don’t think English is worth much if your SAT1/ACT scores are good.
Most schools let you choose which scores to send. So you can either send Math2 and Bio or Math2 and Physics after the test. Physics curve is generous.
@payn4ward okay, thank you! ive already done all the prep for those three, so it also makes the most sense in that respect too to just keep with them. and i’ve done AP english so i guess that covers that base?
also, i didnt know you could choose which tests to send from the same test date? thats awesome, and makes things a bit less stressful.
thank you again!
@payn4ward Sorry to bother you again, but I’ve actually just got one more question. I don’t know how well the physics test is going to go. Prep aside (since I’ve already done a lot for it), would it be a bad idea to switch physics to chemistry? What’s the curve like for it?
I think physics is pretty generous. I don’t know about chemistry. Probably not as generous as physics.
I would assume you need more prep for chemistry. More things to memorize.
Either Physics or Chemistry is fine for any science programs including physics major.
So do some test problems, e.g. on collegeboard or prep book and choose one.
Good luck!
