Should I take an additional AP

Quick question. Should I take AP Micro Economics next year (half semester). I have already scheduled for next year, but I can still change my schedule, and I have already decided to switch out of one of my classes. This year (junior year), I took AP US History and AP Language and Comp. Next year I am scheduled for AP Gov, AP Literature, and AP Calc BC. The only very competitive college I plan on applying to is University of Michigan. I have a 3.85 unweighted GPA and scored a 32 on my ACT (which could go up).

So should I tack on the extra AP to increase my chances of acceptance, or am I fine? Also, how important is GPA senior year, if at all? Thanks

I think you’re probably fine without it, especially if you’re not applying to any tier 1 schools. Adding that AP shouldn’t have too much effect on your chances. But hopefully, your class load reflects that you’re challenging yourself whether AP-loaded or not. As for grades senior year, DON’T disregard them. Colleges will see your first semester of senior year and it is the worst possible time to slack off. Junior grades and first semester senior grades are probably the most important. Second semester, it is true that colleges won’t see your grades. But a lot of schools have requirements that you keep your grades above a certain point once you’re accepted there. If you fail to meet that condition, your offer can be rescinded.

You may want to see if AP microeconomics will be of any use for credit units, subject credit, or placement into more advanced economics courses at any of the colleges you are looking at.
