I’m a sophomore and I don’t know what to take for history next year. I need to take AP Gov. and I want to take AP Micro and AP Macro for sure. I was wondering if I should take micro and macro next year as a junior and gov. as a senior or take gov. as a junior and micro and macro as a senior.
There really isn’t a right or wrong answer. Here are some things to consider which might help you decide: What is the typical sequence at your school? Do you want to be in classes with your grade or does it not matter? How will either fit in with your other classes? At your school does one course require more work than the other? Think about how much time your other classes will take. Is there a teacher that is really good with one of the classes and not the other? Ask around. Thinking about these may help you decide. You can also meet with your guidance counselor for their advice or speak with your current history teacher. Good luck!
Have you already taken US History?
Would you take AP US/Comp Gov?
I took US History freshman year and I would take AP US Gov @MYOS1634
AP US Gov is only a semester class, so if you don’t take the second half (Comparative Gov) you could take AP Macro Economics, and AP Micro spring senior year with a study hall in the Fall for college applications.
There’s really no “right order” for these classes.
I understand there is no order @MYOS1634 but I was wondering which order would be the best for me. Like which classes are easier and if I should take easier classes junior year or senior year or both and balance them out.
I’d say economics is a bit easier than gov, especially is you’re good at math (some micro economics requires calculus to e well understood, although the AP version doesn’t require calculus at all.) All three /four are roughly equal though - not core AP 's / not AP lites.
And another thing I would like to tape AP micro and macro the same year so it’s easier so that’s two semesters while gov. is just one semester and I could have the other semester off or add another easy class there @MYOS1634
So micro / macro junior year, study hall fall senior year for college apps, and gov in the spring.
Ok thanks I also scheduled an appointment with my counselor tomorrow to talk about next year so I’ll get back to you tomorrow, but I like your idea because study hall fall senior year would be very helpful @MYOS1634
As long as you have a rigorous course load (like 4 AP’s and 1 honors class), that study hall could make a lot of difference on your college essays. I’m assuming you’ll be applying to selective 4-year colleges of course - study hall not necessary for colleges that admit by formula GPA X test score.
