So, my school doesn't offer AP Calc BC, only AP Calc AB. So, do you guys think I should take AP Calc AB course and then take the exam for BC? Don't worry, I'm not trying to be slick and take the easier class, I just thought it would be pragmatic. I will self-study the extra BC material for the exam. Would colleges mind me doing this? I know I can pull off a 5 if I try hard enough.

There really isn’t any point to that. It won’t help you with admissions. And you can just take calc in college, I don’t think it is a good idea to use self study to place out of it. Spend your time doing really well on the classes that you have.

I beg to disagree. What OP is proposing is a very sound move on his/her part - go for the BC exam. If you ace it it might mean a difference of 4 credits (with 5 in AB you get 4 credits but with a 5 in BC you get 8 credits in most colleges). With college tuition costing arm and leg these days every little bit counts. This might put you ahead graduating in one less semester (and saving of one semester of tuition, room and board).

chapter, I agree with collegedad, I am in the same situation and will be taking the BC exam. Go for it!

I wish I had thought to do that last year when I took Calculus AB. I agree with collagedad. Even if you don’t do well with the BC stuff, you’ll have the AB subscore on the AP test.
