I was going to take the AP Calculus AB and BC tests this year, but apparently they are both during the same time. Is there any way to take them both?

Well, the whole AB test is in the BC test. Like if you take the BC test, then you get a BC grade AND an AB grade. So take that one. It’s like taking two tests.

1) Like the above poster said, the BC test includes an AB subsection.

2) You are explicitly not allowed to take both tests in the same year anyway.

^So if I’m self-studying AP Calc while taking a Calc class taught basically to the AB level, should I just go ahead and take the BC portion of the exam?

Probably, yes. There isn’t THAT much more material covered on the BC exam, and even if you don’t do so well on it you’ll still have the AB subscore.

^Thanks so much :)

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I have a question that doesn’t deserve its own thread.

I’m taking Calc AB in school this semester. If I self study a few of the C concepts on my own, would there be anything against me taking the BC test? Like, say I do horribly on the C part but okay on the AB part, would colleges not accept that as credit for courses? You say there’s not that much more material; how much is really different? And is everything else the same?

TL;DR- Is there any reason to take the AB exam when I could take the BC exam?

Maybe I’m not the best person to have answer considering that I asked a question up above, but after some research I found out that there is an AB sucscore for the BC exam, so it’s kind of like taking Calculus: ABC :)

So, if I’m correct, it would be a waise decision to go ahead and do the BC exam, especially if you are a senior.

AB is 60% of BC. So, If you do well enough in AB and somewhat well in C, then you could still have a chance to get a 4 or 5 on the BC score total and college will accept the BC score and get you out of Calc II.

Ok, so colleges would accept the AB subscore if I completely bombed the BC part, right?

Not all colleges accept the AB subscore as being equivalent to the actual AB test, but a lot of them do. The College Board does intend for it to be accepted that way. If you have a particular college or set of colleges that you’re thinking of, you might check with them.

I took the AB exam last year and I’m taking the BC one this year. I figure I might as well take them separate years - the more AP exams, the better - right?

Yeah, I think I’ll do that.

I agree, but then, I’m doing that so I can become National AP Scholar.

^ would it look better (for colleges) if you have National AP Scholar, or if you self studied for the BC exam and aced it?
