Should I take AP Calculus AB or BC? Need opinions?

Hey guys,
So right now I am a junior in high school taking precal, and right now we are signing up for courses next year. However, I am having a very difficult time choosing between the two. I personally think AB is the better fit for me, considering I'm just average in math. BUT, my precal teacher is a terrible teacher and she will be teaching AB! On the other hand, the BC teacher is really good. Everyone who takes the class with the BC teacher all get 5's on the AP, and this is because he will kick out any students who he thinks wouldn't get a 5 in his class (which im worried about, since im not that good at math). So do you think I should take the challenge and just take BC? And if I do get kick out, just take AB then?

Other useful information: I am interested in majoring Business in college. More specifically, Accounting.

PS. In case you guys don't know, I don't need to take AB before taking BC. I can jump straight from precal to BC.

Thanks everyone!

if you are doing okay in pre-calc with a bad teacher, you will likely be fine in BC with a great teacher. BC covers more material and moves faster than AB but there is much overlap in the two courses. What does the BC teacher think? You could ask him.

You may want to check the math requirements for the business programs to which you are applying. Do you even need calculus? Maybe you should take statistics instead.

Go BC. A good teacher will easily help you make up any gaps in knowledge that may have resulted from being with a bad precalculus teacher.

BC is just all of the AB material and some BC stuff. You should take BC because your BC teacher will teach the AB material better than your precalc teacher, so even if you get kicked out, you’ll have a better understanding of AB topics.

BC for sure. It’s fun (at least I thought it was) and looks good on a college application, especially if you skip over AB.

Calculus 1,2 (and 3) is a lot different than the math you have been doing thus far. You don’t need to be good at math to perform well in Calc 1 or Calc 2- you just need to be able to understand what it means conceptually. If you can do this, both calc AB and BC should be very easy. If you have trouble understanding concepts and cannot grasp them quickly, you will have a very tough time in BC since the course moves quite quickly and a strong understanding of each concept is required since the course builds on itself.

AB. I took AB first semester my junior year, and am currently taking BC my second semester. I feel like there is a lot of AB material in BC that you really need to know. I would be lost if I just started BC without any calc before.

Go BC - and you can always drop down to AB after a few weeks if it seems like you need to.
But most definitely for just about every reason, BC is a better choice (this coming from a kid that’s gotten a 5 on the BC test). The difference in material is not worth the extra time and money spent in college.
