I'm a rising senior and I am seriously contemplating taking a "Math" course next year. I'm still finishing up AP Statistics. My school requires that we take 4 Math Courses by graduation. As of now I've already taken 6. I really don't want to have a "too packed" schedule next year. I really want time to focus on my Film Portfolios, applications, and maintaining my GPA. Will this hurt my chances at the schools I'm looking at. I plan to double major in Film Production (screenwriting/directing) and the Classics/Humanities.

It will probably hurt you at your reach schools, but it’s up to you whether it’s worth it for you. It would help if you posted your schedule so we could see if it’s challenging enough already, but ultimately, you just need to make the choice about what you’d rather do. It would help your app to have AP Calc on your schedule, however it might be better for you to focus on your other classes, and it is ok to choose what’s best for you over what’s best in the college admissions process. Because of scheduling issues I ended up not signing up for a science class my senior year, and since I haven’t taken physics it is going to hurt me at my reach schools. But not taking physics is allowing me to double up in history, mentor in an ELL history class, and take a free period every day to keep my grades up. Dropping a science wasn’t the best decision for me college application-wise, but it was the right decision for me personally, and now I’m really looking forward to my senior year. So you have a similar decision to make, and really it’ll be ok no matter what, so try not to freak out about it too much; just do whatever you think is right. Good luck with choosing! :)

OK. My schedule will most likely be as follows:

AP English Literature and Composition
AP U.S Government/AP Macroeconomics (Semester Courses)
AP Psychology
Anatomy and Physiology (Honors)
Newspaper Staff (Honors)
Drawing II (Honors)
[Open Credit-This could possibly be AP Calculus]
