Should I take AP exams now for a possible future transfer?

Hi,
Our school is having AP exam registrations going on now. I already got accepted (ED) and am going to NYU Stern next year for finance. I already have enough AP credits for NYU to accept (they recommend 16 for Stern, max of 32--I have passed 4 AP exams with 2 4's, 2' 5's - http://w4.stern.nyu.edu/emplibrary/ACFVh8dfw.pdf for details). My question is, should I take 4 AP exams in psych/euro/stats/lit this year if I want to transfer in the future (somewhere substantially better like a top tier IVY, which is going to be almost impossible I know) so it looks good on the transfer app? Should I save the money and not take the exams? Or am I way in over my head and planning way too far ahead?

Thanks and let me know.

Elite schools generally limit how many AP credits.

I wouldn’t bother to take all 4, but would pick 2 of them to take.

Can’t hurt, if you can afford it. It could also pay off at NYU - you can have more choice about which ones you use and which you have to let expire.

Does it really matter which ones I use to fulfill 16 credits? Also, would they look at this on a transfer transcript?

You may find it useful to be able to select which classes you take AP credit for. For example, it is sometime recommended to not test out of intro classes in your major, and to take the intro class, in order to ensure you have a solid foundation for the upper level classes, and instead to get credit for classes in subjects that you aren’t particularly interested in and don’t plan to take upper level classes in.

Is it better to retake some of the easier classes for easier A’s? For examples, I could get a Natural science class waived, but I hear it’s an easy A?

bump: also, why does it matter which aps I use for credit and what do you mean by ap credit expires?
