Due to some miscommunication between my counsellor and me, I have recently realised that my classes for Junior year are AP Statistics, AP Chemistry, Band, Pre Calculus Honours, AP lang, Arabic 2, and Us History… which is a problem. They had previously told me that my schedule was wonky, and that I would have to change it later. But later on, they told me that everything was fixed. But now, I realised that everything was not okay because I got my schedule back… without AP US! But I’m still fine with taking these classes, but my parents told me that as an international student that if I do not take AP US, and take AP Stats instead, colleges will not consider me as good candidates, thus reducing my chances of getting into a good college (the asian dream of the Ivy League). Are they right? Should I just take AP US instead of AP Stats? Or are they just misinformed or something? Please help
Depends on what you want to major in… I grew up in an western/asian community, and I know how the intensity is for us Asians (haha) and seriously its scary how all the upper classman who graduated seems to be like monsters who did like 15 APs and all were 5s except like one 4. But honestly the colleges do want students who have lots of APs and have great stuff in their transcripts, but really if you have AP US history when you want to major in something like Computer science or something, it looks really off and they’d think that you just took any AP that you could to increase the number, and they don’t like that. So I’d suggest that you do what you need to do to not overwhelm yourself… but If you really want to bump your AP numbers up I’d suggest taking APUSH instead of AP stats (I know I’m contradicting myself but… my parents would probably say that too) and maybe self study AP stats because a lot of people in my school self-study AP stats and since you’re taking Honors Pre-Calc, I think you can make it possible=)
