Should I take both MathI and II?

Im starting 11th grade next year and this summer Im studying for math1 in october but would colleges not care about my math1 grade if my math2 grade is good? Like should I waste time studying for math1 when I can study for math 2 and get a good grade. I want to take math2 in june after I finish pre cal. Im pretty good at math so I'm almost sure I won't get below a 710 or 720.

No, just take Math II.

you really think so?..anyone else with an idea

No need to take math I if you are taking math II. It would be a waste of time. If a school requires 2 SAT IIs, you won’t be able to use math I and II.

It’s better to just take Math II.

which one is easier, like what material do they cover?

Math II is slightly harder (hence the name), but after a good pre-calculus class you should be ready for Math II.

Since I know little about which is more abstruse, am going to base my statement on rspence comment being the “Math 2 is harder”. For me I would stick with Math 1 just to stay safe.

The thing is, I’ve heard from lots of CC’ers that Math II is curved a lot more generously, i.e. a much larger percentage score 800 on it. That doesn’t mean it’s easier, but it’s more likely to score 800. Also Math II looks better on college apps than Math I.

Hmm yeah rspence, you have valid point. Curves are amazing when you need them and can prove more than helpful on hard exams such as the SATs.

I agree with rspence, but would it be a waste to take math 1 when when i could do even better on a harder math2?

@ramzee pretty much.

I took both Math I & II (just for fun) in May, and got 800 both. Due to the report, 12% of students got 800 on Math II, while only 1% got 800 on Math I. So you should take Math II, which is only a little harder but easier to get a perfect score.

I’m not sure if it’s “easier” to get 800 on Math II, it’s just that the populations taking Math I and Math II are different. The potential science/engineering/math majors are most likely going to take Math II, resulting in more perfect scores than on Math I.

on Math II, you could still get 800 when you get about 5 or 6 wrongs. But on Math I, the only way is to get everything right

No, colleges don’t care about math 1. Don’t waste your time and money
