I’ll be taking Calc BC as a sophomore in high school and after I’m done with that I can sign up for youth options a d take calculus 3, but should I? I’m not planning on doing any majors that would require high level mathematics and calc 3 as a junior just seems a little too far ahead. I want to go to a top school such as Harvard, Stanford, Oxford, etc. Would it hurt my chances if I didn’t take 4 years of math even though I would have finished Calc BC as a sophomore?
Yes. They want you to take the most rigorous courses your school offers. And maybe now you don’t think you’ll need it for your college major, but you never know…
Before even thinking about college, I doubt your high school only requires two years of math for graduation.
Also, if Calc III as a junior sounds too hard, why are you taking Calc BC so early? You could take AB then BC (and then Calc III).
Best of luck!
I took Geometry, Algebra II, and Pre-Calculus all Freshmen Year through some special circumstances which give me in the high schools requirements 3 years of mathematics.
@CollegeUn how did you take three math courses in one year. I wish I could take 2 math courses in one year let alone 3. Please explain.
My school ran on a block schedule and I finshed geometry in one semester. Then I was bullied out of school and in the online homeschool I joined I passed out of Algebra 2 which they gave me a credit for and then they let me take pre-calc for 1 semester
If you’re aiming for top schools, then you should continue to take math as long as you are able to. If Calc 3 is a reasonable option for you, then you should take it unless you have a really good reason not too.
