Hi, I have a bit of a question concerning my senior year scheduling? I have some desire about taking Physics C, as I heard good things about the course and the teacher, but I don’t intend to become a engineer and would rather pursue in the field of medicine(pre-med). I was also thinking about taking anatomy, ap lit, multi-var, and ap gov as my other classes, but considering the rigor of just Physics C and Multivar would it be wise? Note: this is all out of my own accord and interests, I don’t wish to take these classes just because they are difficult and would look good on a transcript.
As a pre-med, would you be a math or physics major, based on your interest in taking more advanced math and physics courses than most pre-meds take? Pre-meds can be any major, but must complete the set of pre-med courses, although they may take more rigorous/advanced ones, like physics for physics majors instead of physics for biology majors.
Funny thing is I’m leaning towards more non-science or social science. I actually think I’m going to swap Physics C for something like AP Bio and AP Macro/ Micro.
Have you had at least a high school physics course? It can be helpful to have had high school physics before taking physics in college.
Note that many medical schools do not accept AP credit for pre-med course work. Substituting more advanced college courses (e.g. multivariable calculus instead of single variable calculus) is generally accepted, but many pre-meds attempt to grade-grub and hope that they can get an “easy A” by repeating their AP credit. However, college or dual-enrollment courses taken while in high school (is your multivariable calculus course a college or dual-enrollment course?) do count toward your GPA for medical school application purposes.
I’m currently taking Physics 1 and i’m doing good enough so i’m not too worried about the rigor of C. I’m just afraid of getting swamped my senior year if I take too many work-heavy classes.
