I am currently a junior in honors algebra 2 and I’ve been getting mostly A’s and A- in the class. I’ve always been getting A"s in math class ever since 8th grade. The only reason why I am not ahead in math is cause of my math teacher in 7th grade didn’t teach so well so I didn’t do well in her class which brought me behind in the math curriculum. I am really good at math and it is my strongest subject especially with algebra. Math has not been so hard for me in high school. I consider wanting to major computer science in college with requires a lot of math but I feel behind with the math curriculum in my school.I know computer science involves a lot of math. I don’t know if it is a good idea to take precalc over the summer or not. What are your suggestions? I could of doubled up geometry and algebra 2 last year but then I my schedule will be full with no studies. I really like math out of all the other classes at school. I want to take honors calculus next year and honors precalc over the summer. Should I really try to take precalc over the summer and take calculus next year for school. Does it look better to have calculus on my transcript for college over precalc senior year? If I was able to do it over the summer, I would probably take it in a summer school rather than online. I feel like these days most freshmans take geometry, sophomores take algebra 2, juniors take precalc, and seniors take calc. I took honors algebra 1 freshman year, honors geometry sophomore year, and honors algebra 2 now. Hopefully I can do honors calc or ap calc ab senior year. I want to get ahead but I’m not sure if this is doable or not.
Hello! I am a sophomore currently in Precalc (doubled Geom and Algebra 2 last year). Precalc is NOT an unbelievably difficult class, especially if you are invested in and have a knack for math (which it seems you do). It does take some time and your success in it truly depends on two factors: your work ethic and your instructor. If you know and work well with your instructor and are willing to work for your grade, you will do very well.
Don’t take this class over the summer jut because you feel you should. If you want to, take it. If you are having doubts, wait until your senior year. Calc looks better on a senior transcript if you are planning on going to a STEM- heavy university, if not, it shouldn’t hurt your chances of getting into any good school.
I’m a junior in precalc right now. I think precalc is very doable as a summer class. There are lots of online resources as well if you need additional help! It would look better if you took it over the summer but hopefully you’ll be able to get an A in the classes. If you don’t have any summer plans then I advise you to take precalc. However, you may want to consider doing compsci over the summer instead. I am planning to go into compsci and right now it is the most popular career field and is therefore very very very competitive. I heard that it’s good to take it before college so you won’t be behind once university starts
Talk to your math teacher, say you’re considering taking honors pre-calculus over the summer and you hope to take either calculus honors or AB senior year.
It sounds like you are doing well in algebra 2H, which should include some trigonometry. Therefore taking pre-calculus honors over the summer sounds reasonable for you.
Be careful not to take pre-calculus regular though because it wouldn’t prepare you for calculus well enough - check that the honors version is indeed offered in the summer.
I took precalc regular cause it was the only online option and did just fine (A in the class, 5 on the test) in AP Calc BC (the prereq was supposedly honors precalc but no one checked.) so it depends on how confident you are with math and your high school’s math sequence.
I am planning to take AP Computer Science next year as a senior
I think that precalc can easily be fit into the summertime, and if you really want to, take it. You’ll have the advantage of self-studying if need be and not having to focus on any other classes at the same time.
I took precalc online and did fine. I think being able to take calculus ab or bc before college is very important
