I took SAT last December and got around 1850 which is an abysmal score considering the colleges that I want to go to are ranked by US top 10-30ish.

Took the SAT last May with an SAT prep class and some practice on my own and received a 2150. 730 for CR (I didn't know some of the vocabulary) 740 for math (Missed one problem) 680 for essay (almost perfect on multiple choice but my essay got a 4).

Took the SAT Subject Tests in Lit. and US History. Got a 690 in Lit. with no studying and 720 on the USH after rereading my AP Princeton Review guide.

This September, I'm planning to take either the SAT test or another two SAT Subject tests (Math I and Bio).

Which one of the two choices should I take? Some of my reach colleges are Vandy, Washu, and NYU. How will the test scores factor into my merit-based FA?

Sorry I meant I’m registering for SAT tests in September. Taking them in October haha.

SAT I is more important; I’m not sure if any of those schools require SAT IIs so you may be fine.
Just an idea, maybe try the ACT because if you do well not only do you have a date open to do the subject tests, but most schools require SAT and 2 SAT II’s OR the ACT. There’s also an ACT in September whereas SAT starts in October. Just a thought. I also did way better on my ACT than my SAT with little studying on both.
Don’t know too much about the aid but aid wouldn’t really be based on SAT 2’s as far as I know as much as GPA, SAT 1’s, extra curriculars and your essays when you apply.
Best of luck

I did take the ACT in June and got a 32. However, it was one of the most painful tests I have ever taken simply because it felt like so too many questions to answer in too little time. Thanks! I was already considering taking the SAT I :)

A 32 is almost equal to a 2150 though, maybe a difference of 20 points. ACT is painful but you will have two chances to retest, and a date to do your SAT 2’s, AND you don’t even really have to send in the SAT 2’s because I don’t think these schools require them. Just my two cents, seems like the best option

That is those schools don’t require them if you submit the ACT, if you submit SAT they do

You should try ACT again in September and subject test in October. For SAT2, just focus on 2 that you can do the best. That is all you need for most schools.
