Should I take the ACT?

I was never planning on taking the ACT but, recently, a lot of my friends have been commenting that I should take it and submit the score to colleges alongside my SAT. This doesn’t really make sense to me considering I scored a 1580 on the SAT, and I don’t know of a situation in which I would need both scores.

My questions are: Is there a reason I would need to have both an ACT score AND an SAT score? Should I just take the test and see how it goes?

Thanks!

Your friends are wrong. Your 1580 is amazing. You absolutely don’t need to take the ACT. Focus on the rest of your application.

@momofsenior1 thank you! I thought so too but, after being told by 5 different people to try the ACT, I had to ask.

The only reason a person might take both tests is to find out which test is easier for that person…some individuals tend to do better on one or the other. But since a 1580 SAT concords with a 36 ACT…well, there you go. No college expects an applicant to submit scores from both tests.

Congrats on a great score. No reason to take ACT
