Hi, I'm taking three subject tests this Saturday (BLAH, I know), and one of the them is biology, which I've barely studied for and know will get a really bad score.

I'm also taking physics and math II, and after AP week and finals, I've barely had enough time to study, so I've been crunching on math and physics, and didn't study for biology.

I haven't taken any subject tests yet, so this is one of my last chances before applications in the fall, and I need some good scores. I kind of want to take the biology exam just to see what I can get, and take it again in October before applications. So my question is: should I take the biology exam this week and take it again in October, or would it be bad if I applied to colleges and they saw that really bad score? I know colleges say they only look at your best score, but will that low score influence them in any way?

I’d save it for October. Score choice works by test date, so there would be no way to hide your score. Why not just study over the summer and feel confident when you take it?

Well…it is already thursday. Set aside 40 minutes, take a quick practice test from the college board or another guide, if you recall most of it, go for it. Else take it in October. I presume you have taken AP bio this year so you may already know most of it.

Did you just finish AP Biology? I did and I took the Biology SAT in May while studying for the AP exam. If you just finished AP Biology and you studied sufficiently for the AP exam, don’t sweat it - it’s easy. If you didn’t take the class or studied very well, then I don’t think 3 days is enough to cram all that information in - it’s just too much.

Yeah I haven’t taken the class yet. I’m not planning on cramming much for that exam, I’m just thinking about taking the test and see what I get, and then take it again the fall, but right now, that doesn’t seem like the best idea. I just want to know if it’s better to have a really bad score, then a good score, or to have just a good score, or it even matters. October is my last chance before early decision applications, and I want to do well, but I somehow feel its necessary that I at least try this time. I don’t even know…
